Because He First Loved Us
About This Series

We love because God first loved us. As we enter Rekindle month, we take a fresh look at how we ought to love God, our fellow believers and the people who do not yet know God's love. Let's remember what the apostle Paul said: without love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

In this message, we look at Jesus’ letter to a thriving church that had everything going for it—except the most crucial thing. As a church that emphasises steadfast commitment and faithfulness, Jesus’ timeless and loving words to them are just as relevant for us 2000 years later. Let’s hear what he has to say and make sure that for all the good we do, we are not lacking in what is most important of all.

1. Have you grown weary of serving God and being faithful to him? How does this passage encourage us to persevere?

2. Why does God demand that we love him? How much are you in love with Christ when compared to the past?

3. What might have caused your love for God to grow cold over time? What will help us to return to our first love for God?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Have you fallen in love before? Love is popularly described at something we fall into uncontrollably yet the bible commands us to love as an action of will. Let's explore the scripture today to see Love in action looks like.

1. List gifting from God that has served you well outside the church. How can you use them to build up the church and your cell group?

2. Share kindly and gently some aspects of church activities that you feel are illogical or inefficient. What does it mean for you to love in action (with a love that transcends logic)?

3. List some aspects of your life that you hope will reveal Christ to others – generosity, kindness, gentleness, etc. How can you grow in these to help others see Christ through you?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

The parable of The Lost Sheep that Jesus talked about tells us about the love of God and how He sees the lost. It is important for us to learn to rejoice with God when someone is found. If you are the lost sheep, or if you need to be encouraged to seek the lost ones that God loves today, hear from Pastor Sally as she helps you understand God’s heart for you.

1. Why did Jesus choose to talk about sheep to make His point?

2. How is Jesus’ response to the sinner different from the Pharisees’? What is your response towards your unbelieving friends and family members?

3. How does the picture of heaven rejoicing over even just one sinner repenting make you feel? List down some people you would like to see the angels throw a party over.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

What is Jesus' heartbeat for his church until he comes again? This week, we will begin to understand and feel the Lord's desire for his children- to be loving each other; to be one, as a body of Christ- as we discover and mediate upon our Lord Jesus' final prayer on earth for us in John 17.

1. As we take time this week to meditate and reflect upon the Lord’s prayer in John 17:1-26, share with the cell group what are your thoughts and reflections that the Lord has impressed upon your heart.

2. As we look back on our Christian journey, encourage each other with the key moments when we displayed the glory of the Lord. Are there times also when God’s glory is dim in our lives?

3. C.S Lewis mentioned that when we love God well, we will love men well. Reflect if we have loved others sincerely but sincerely wrong? Share with each other how we can help and motivate each other in the cell group to love God better and deeper.
