Who We AreIn the 1960s, a group of passionate God-loving youths began gathering for weekly Saturday meetings in Brighton Crescent near Serangoon Gardens, and they called themselves the Brighton Youth Fellowship.
Our Story
-
Brighton Community Church traces its roots to the Brighton Youth Fellowship, where founding pastor Wang Tiak Kweng joined as a teenager in 1980 and later became its leader in 1986. Under his leadership, the ministry grew significantly, leading to the formation of young adult and children’s fellowships.
-
Plans were proposed to plant a new church, but a major leadership upheaval in 1998 disrupted those efforts. After prayer and discernment, the Brighton leaders believed God was leading them to begin a new church.
-
As a result, Brighton Community Church was founded and began its first services in January 1999 with around 70 worshippers at Cathay Pavilion Cineplex. It was officially registered later that year.
Our Beliefs
-
Our mission is to build a community that glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ through obedience to the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-38) and the Great Commission(Matthew 28:19-20a). We purpose that every believer in Brighton develops in a wholesome manner in four key areas.
-
We believe that the Bible, comprising the Old and New Testaments in their original languages, is the inspired revelation of the Almighty God for the salvation of mankind, and is the infallible, inerrant and authoritative guide to all matters of life, faith and practice.

As society's perspectives on autonomy and sexual mores evolve, it becomes increasingly crucial for Christians to uphold biblical truths as well as bear witness to unbelievers. With the ease and popularity of travelling, the common practice of unmarried couples of different gender going overseas together raises important questions for believers seeking to maintain their Christian sexual purity and distinctiveness in the world.
-
Once a week, the entire congregation gathers to hear the word of God being explained and applied. We believe that preaching is a means of communication that God uses to speak to his people individually and corporately. As such, we put special thought and effort into the pulpit ministry. Our goal is to be able to say like the apostle Paul:
28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. 29 To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me. Colossians 1
