Judgement Call
About This Series

All of us hate the idea of people judging us; we just want everyone to be tolerant and accepting. What we often don't realise is that we would find a world without judgment an intolerable and unacceptable place. What we really need is to understand why judgment is necessary and how to judge rightly.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

We can make the mistake of judging others out of pride, but we can also make the mistake of taking pride in not judging when we ought to. It is fashionable to tell people not to judge, yet the apostle Paul gave firm instructions to his readers to judge. Let’s find out why and how Christians ought to judge in today’s message entitled: When to Judge?

1. Should we judge or not judge? What does the Bible have to say about this subject?

2. Do you have believing friends who persist in sinning? How should you respond to them?

3. Why should we judge (and even dissociate from) sinning Christians and yet associate with unbelievers outside the church? How are you reaching out to your non-Christian friends whose behaviour you find objectionable?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Modern Western culture asserts that there is no objective truth or moral absolutes. Anyone who claims otherwise is arrogant, intolerant and needs to be cancelled. However, the reality is relativism has not reduced conflict or hatred between people. Is there a better solution? Yes, we can find it in the Bible. Let’s find out more about from today’s message entitled: How to Judge?

1. How can we conclude that others are wrong morally or theologically and yet not judge them? Who are some people you ought to stop judging?

2. What is deficient about the tolerance preached by modern culture? What is the Bible’s alternative? Who are some people you need to make practical loving adjustments for even though you disagree with them?

3. What does Paul appeal to in his argument for accepting one another? To what degree do you share his heart’s desire?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Our culture not only gets upset about other people judging us, we also increasingly reject a God who judges and condemns people to hell, rather than just love and accept everyone no matter what. That’s why in the final message of this series, we look at why we should be eternally thankful that God is the Judge of all the earth, and that he judges with both righteousness and mercy.

1. How do you feel about the fact that God is a judge who impartially judges sin, repaying evil with punishment?

2. How do you know that the judgment seat of God/Christ (Romans 14:10, 2 Corinthians 5:10) is about rewards and not punishment? What will you want to respond to this truth practically?

3. Why does God judge believers even in this lifetime? How have you experienced, or are experiencing, such judgment?
