Garden of Gethsemane

by

The Garden Gethsemane was one of two darkest moments of our Lord Jesus’ ministry on earth. Most of us are familiar with the story at Calvary where Jesus the Son of God endured the cross for the redemption of mankind. Yet, in the Garden of Gethsemane, less familiar to many of us, we witnessed the Son of Man, struggling in his humanity to forsake the very cup that was thrust upon him by God the Father.

Discussion Questions

  1. Let us recall and reflect on our own “Garden of Gethsemane” in our lives and share how we have responded through such times. Perhaps, our experiences might be similar to that of the disciples or even Jesus?
  2. Our Lord Jesus exhibited a state of anguish & distressful struggle, as well as, a quiet confidence and faith in God-both at the same time-in the Garden of Gethsemane. Share any insights how this can help us in our own walk with God and/or in the lives of our fellow believers?
  3. One of the key themes in the Garden of Gethsemane is prayer. As we reflect and consider our own personal prayer walk with God, let us share with each other our successes; struggles; confusion or perhaps apathy about prayer. As a cell group, let us-through our different experiences-encourage each other in regard to praying to God.
